Review:
It’s been over a year since I originally reviewed any album so I have decided to go back and re-visit each review and spiff it up a bit with my current opinions as well as raise the quality of my reviews to that of my more recent ones. Driller is a melodic hard rock band with a bit of metal thrown in there and their biggest influences includes Van Halen, Dream Theater, and Mr. Big.  I originally found out about them through last.fm where I received a free download of their song Angels Without Wings from their last.fm page in March of 2011 and I was impressed from the start. Not only did the band sound good, but they also added a fresh modern sound to the hard rock formula and it turned out great! Later in the month I was given a download of the entire album and now it is readily available on last.fm and Spotify for free. Now since I have the full EP I have been able to listen to it entirely and boy I will tell you that these guys deserve a lot more attention.

For the actual music, all the tracks rock hard and the song that stands out most to me is Angels without Wings, which was also the free track they released. The song has a really 80′s metal/melodic rock vibe to it with a bluesy guitar tone. Alex’s voice is very unique in that it is raspy yet it sounds good, something not many people can pull off. Two of my other favorites are Into the Alchemy of Love and Burning Youth, both of them are edgy and the Van Halen/Mr. Big/Extreme influences come out. Heck all of the songs are great and make you want to bang your head and crank up the volume. These guys definitely deserve or listen or two at the least and if you are into the melodic hard rock scene of modern-day or even the 80′s glam metal/melodic hard rock stuff then you would like these guys, so go out there and download this album from Amazon or iTunes or order the cd from their website: http://www.drillertheband.co.uk/ and help get these guys a record deal! On the side note, their bassist Jet Silk has left the band and they are looking for a replacement bassist as well as a rhythm/second guitarist. If you are in Edinburgh in the UK and can support one of these positions, then get in contact with the band as they are looking to record a full-length album this summer and tour around.

    • Cool, I recommend Angels Without Wings as a first listen, it really gives you an idea of what they all are about and it is my favorite song off the EP

  1. Okay, I’ll pick this Driller EP up… you persuaded me, too many cool things you’ve stated about their music. \m/

  2. Driller is surprisingly deep and thoughtful musicians, willingly going to all sorts of experiments and vividly responsive to new trends in modern hard rock music.

  3. Alex Rech is a natural talent with unmatched vocal abilities. That voice is like an eruption!
Drills sound is spirited, with the pamped-up approach of the highest energy rock’n’ roll band you’d care to name.
